rhymes, a quarry and preparing for home

Heading south down the Sound of Mull.  Nothing too exciting so a "poem" happened...

Vessels vary in volume, voluptuous beamy boats (yuk!)
single man kayaks, anything that floats
Got to get on the water, the sun is in the sky
even get a ferry, the call of the briny's nigh.

Vessels carrying passengers who pay to go afloat.
They don't mind where they're going
as long as they're on a boat.

Vessels you can swim from with ladders on the stern
not the place for beginners but... they'll learn.

Vessels carrying cargo, like the Vital Spark
Para Handy at the helm, it started as a lark.
Dougie and McPhial help keep it all afloat.
Another way to water, another sort of boat.

Jet skis, ribs and power boats, faster ways to get
a taste of salty water & ever so slightly wet.
Paddle boards & canoes cling to the water's edge
Kayakers go further afield, living on the edge.

I'm afraid it didn't stop there.  In Tobermory there was an outdoor concert...

Singer singing to sailors settled in the sand
songs soar skyward, dissipating over the land
music moves emotions
release, relax, recall
tonight will be remembered by many, if not all.

I'll stop now.

Another ubiquitous CalMac Ferry crossing the Sound.  They do sound like Scottish chocolate biscuits.

Sailing east along Loch Linnhe, we have an excellent view of the china clay quarry.  A cloud of dust hangs in the air over the quarry and even where we are, the dust makes me sneeze.

"sneezes and wheezes in the breezes"  [sorry!]

as if making rhymes wasn't enough!

me & him with a reflection of the loch

approaching Linnhe Marine

In the evening, before settling in for the night, the light and the stillness of the water gave this section of the loch the appearance of an infinity pool, dropping away at the foot of the misty mountains on the far shore.  Stunning!

my other half looking after EB

Before leaving for home the next day, leisurely we;
  • finished some boaty things
  • cleaned EB, inside and out
  • packed and transferred all we could to the car
  • relaxed and spent some time reading
  • checked the weather forecast... possibility of gales!
Change of plan - we had 30 mins to put EB on her floating mooring; bring in and store the fenders and mooring lines; bring on-board the dingy; make everything secure and be ready for the lift back to land with Davy before he goes home for the day.

One moment all chilled out and relaxed and the next, trying to get everything finished safely and in the shortest time possible.  That's sailing!
